Older ONS series: Bread: white loaf, sliced, 800g (ended January 2025)
Before the shopping prices tool, ONS published a separate average price for a loaf of bread as part of the RPI. That series ran from January 1971 to January 2025 and is no longer updated. It measured a slightly different item ("Bread: white loaf, sliced, 800g"), was published in pence and was collected differently, so it is shown separately and should not be joined to the new figures above.
10p in January 1971; 140p in January 2025, when the series ended.
